Ebook About
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERWhen dealing with a masterpiece, only the best will do. That’s why writer Daniel Abraham and illustrator Tommy Patterson were chosen to adapt George R. R. Martin’s beloved fantasy classic A Game of Thrones as a graphic novel. And as anyone who has read the previous two collected volumes of the ongoing series can attest, the result has been a stunning tour de force faithful in every respect to its brilliant original.   In King’s Landing, Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell—the Hand of King Robert Baratheon—is surrounded by enemies. Some are openly declared, such as Ser Jaime Lannister and his sister, Queen Cersei. Others are hidden in the shadows. Still others wear the smiling mask of friends. But all are deadly, as Eddard is about to discover.   Nor is the enmity between Eddard and the Lannister siblings the sole source of friction between these powerful noble families. For Tyrion Lannister, the Imp—whose stunted, twisted body houses the mind of a genius—has but lately won his freedom from Lady Catelyn Stark, Eddard’s wife, who had accused him of attempting to murder her youngest son, Brandon. Now he seeks out his father, his restless thoughts bent on revenge.   Far to the north, the bastard Jon Snow, newly sworn to the Night’s Watch, takes the first faltering steps toward a destiny stranger than he could ever dream—a destiny that will bring him face-to-face with unspeakable horrors from beyond the edge of the world.   While across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen, wed to the great Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo, and pregnant with his child—a son prophesied to conquer the world—will see her own destiny take an unforeseen turn.

Book A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel: Volume Three Review :

This is the third of a series of four graphic novels that adapts George R. R. Martin's novel of the same name. The first season of the HBO series was adapted from the same novel, but seasons 2 through 5 are adaptations of later novels in the series. (A Game of Thrones is the title of Martin's first novel, not the later books in the series.) So, If you're looking to compare this volume to the TV series, it corresponds to the third quarter of season 1. It starts with the aftermath of Jaime attacking Ned Stark in the streets and ends with Varys visiting Ned in his prison cell. The illustrations are beautiful and the book does a good job of telling George Martin's original story. And, although I have both seen the TV series and read the original novel (and love both), this book manages to be engaging and unique in its own right. This is a new adaptation of the novel and it stays closer to the source material than the HBO series. Character designs are closer to their descriptions in the book and dialog is lifted directly from the novel more often. You do occasionally get more detail (or at least DIFFERENT details) in this adaptation of Martin's extremely complex novels than you do in the TV series. So, it does complement the show nicely. For example, the original novel provides the reader a great deal about what the lead characters are thinking, but the show has a harder time doing this. The graphic novels restore a lot of this information. Also, the reader gets a bit of an introduction to Sansa's friend Jeyne Poole, who becomes important in the later novels, but was written out of TV series entirely.Having said that, this volume is still pretty close to being a version the TV series in comic book form. Season 1 of the series was itself relatively faithful to the book. So, the graphic novel is not all that different. I'm hoping the creators of the graphic novels make it all the way to adapting Martin's fourth novel, where the TV series began to depart significantly from the books it's based on. It would be nice to see Martin's original ideas in graphic form.Additionally, each volume of the graphic novel has some very nice material at the end concerning the making of this particular adaptation. This section of the third volume is a little less interesting than the previous two, since it just contains early sketches of the various characters, without much additional information. Finally, like the TV series, this is definitely NOT for children. The levels of sexuality and violence depicted here are comparable to the HBO series. If you wouldn't want your kids watching the TV show, you wouldn't want them reading this.
I love the art work and the artists depiction of the characters. Very well done again
